I was taking the ‘errors in sentence structure class after which the following question was asked in the mini quiz:

James loves to cook however, he does not like to clean the kitchen afterwards

I am struggling to understand how is this a fragment error. Can you please help?

Correct answers: James loves to cook; however, he does not like to clean the kitchen afterwards.

Reason- Note that “however” is an adverb, not a conjunction. Therefore, it cannot be used to join two clauses.

We can either separate the sentence into two or use a semicolon as both the independent clauses are connected to each other.
